The terminological explanations and methodological tools introduced in this chapter shall give an overview of my theoretical positioning that informs the following analyses of utopian narratives. I comprehend the Americas as a culturally and literarily highly productive contact zone, in which multiple civilizations come together and distinct cultural elements coexist (Bowers 130, Pratt 37). Apart from my perspective, this subchapter includes further clarification of the three critical lenses I decided to look through for the analysis of the selected primary texts.
