Kinetic Description of a Plasma
摘要
Kinetics of a many-particle system refers in physics to the dynamic description of a system composed of many particles based on statistical methods. Instead of considering each individual particle, a probability distribution (distribution function) of the particle states is used. In the kinetic theory of gases (neutral particles), the distribution is determined by the Boltzmann equation. Collisions between particles play a central role in the evolution of the distribution function. From the latter, macroscopic properties such as pressure, temperature, and transport phenomena can be derived. The charges of plasma particles lead to particular features, which we address in this chapter. We present the various kinetic equations that are in use.
