An opposition is a procedure that allows any third party to initiate a cost-effective review of the patentability of a granted patent in a contentious proceeding. The third party does not need to demonstrate a legitimate interest. The opposition takes place after the grant of the patent, so that the patent holderpatent holder is not prevented by an opposition from enforcingenforcement his patent.
