In numerical mathematics, methods to “solve” mathematical problems and tasks are designed and analyzed. Numerical mathematics is closely linked with other branches of mathematics and computer science, and always needs to keep applications from in chemistry, physics, medicine, engineering, or economics in mind. The tasks we try to solve often originate from outside mathematics and come from a wide variety of areas. We place particular emphasis on these applications in this book and mark the sections as excursions.

摘要

In numerical mathematics, methods to “solve” mathematical problems and tasks are designed and analyzed. Numerical mathematics is closely linked with other branches of mathematics and computer science, and always needs to keep applications from in chemistry, physics, medicine, engineering, or economics in mind. The tasks we try to solve often originate from outside mathematics and come from a wide variety of areas. We place particular emphasis on these applications in this book and mark the sections as excursions.
