Among the thinkers and politicians who most influenced Tocqueville, François Guizot is particularly noteworthy, despite the fact that Tocqueville no longer shared his views and perspectives, at the latest after his journey to America. Tocqueville had already become acquainted with Guizot’s works during his studies. Together with Beaumont, he attended Guizot’s lectures on the history of civilization in Europe and France, which Guizot held at the Sorbonne in the early 1830s.
