Jamshid al-Kashi—The Last Significant Mathematician of the Islamic Middle Ages
摘要
With the increase in seafaring, the accuracy of tables of trigonometric function values became ever more important: navigators determined their position by the stars, and inaccuracies in the tables or measurements could lead to significant deviations in course. Al-Kashi succeeded, using a brilliant method, in calculating the value of sin(1°) to 18 decimal places.
