Environmental management is part of quality assurance, utilizing the same management tools as, for example, standards 14001 and ISO 50001, and groups these tools under the overarching concept of sustainability just as effectively as the term integrated management system. There is only one management system; there is not a separate environmental, energy, or sustainability management system. All management systems influence the competitiveness and profitability of companies, as illustrated graphically in Fig. 3.1.
