Basics of the Cochlear Implant (CI)

This chapter describes the impressive development of the cochlear implant (CI) and the prospects for people with deafness or hearing loss. The reader learns about the various causes of hearing disorders that lead to CI care and their significance for speech and hearing therapy. The structure and function of the CI are explained, and the different designs of implants and sound processor models, as well as possibilities of technical adjustment according to the relevance for speech and hearing therapy, are presented.
