Within the hazy abundance of narrative use and research, differentiation and theoretical orientation are essential. This theory chapter explores how approaches of literature studies, particularly cultural narratology, can be operationalised and applied for empirical migration research. It is crucial to embed those theories within the complex field of transdisciplinary narrative research to reach the full potential of what storytelling can offer as an analytical tool, as a method, and as a cultural force. Methodologically, the chapter introduces storytelling as a social and interactional practice in everyday life: Beyond a material core of 91 semi-structured interviews, such ethnographic research contains multi-sensory observation, reflections on positionalities, the exploration of ephemeral traces, and embodied experiences by the researcher. It presents itself to be a relational and situational practice where improvisations become the norm.

摘要
