A Supererogation is said to be an action that is not a duty despite its moral value. Therefore, the first premise P1 of the Argument of Supererogation holds that there are morally valuable actions that are not duties despite their moral value (see Sect. 2.3.2). No thesis, however, is as controversial between supererogationists and antisupererogationists in modern supererogation research as this one. Part II of the book reconstructs the debates in different moral philosophical camps regarding the questions of whether supererogations exist and how they are to define if they exist (see Chapters 4–7). To prepare these debates, Chapter 3 provides an overview of the history of the term supererogation.

摘要
