How to Read, and Write, Scientific Publications
摘要
In this book, I could have addressed many things. Scientific methods, techniques, countless sub-disciplines and so many colorful facts from a myriad of enzymes. You can learn all this, however, if you understand the language of science. This is why I dedicate this last chapter to reading and writing papers, written in said scientific language. Learning any new specialty—be it a scientific discipline, or a bespoke kind of sport like yoga, or sailing on a yacht—is pretty much like learning a new language. Well, in experimental sciences—not yet applying any specialization—we have to master not just one, but at least three different languages...Lab-slang is full of technical terms and incomprehensible abbreviations, something like “we have no idea what ABC is supposed to mean, what we just observed here with the XYZ method but we write it down - just for us in silence...”
