A lot has been written about DNA. Much of it can be found in genetics textbooks. Here we want to discuss what makes DNA so special. We want to look at the proportions of biomolecules, relative to each other, which are often misrepresented. Finally, we highlight a few enzymes that are indispensable for the eternal winding-up and winding-down of the “thread of life”. DNA is the first somewhat longer biopolymer that we assemble from our LEGO construction kit of life, the deoxyribonucleic acid. “Somewhat longer”, probably isn’t appropriate here. Most likely, DNA is the longest biopolymer on the planet.

摘要
