The Invention of the Self: More or Less than Self-Awareness?
摘要
The self is an invention of modernity. It stands for consciousness, self-consciousness, and personality. Experts are trying to implant learning into AI. However, human learning works differently. Namely, not through exact similarity patterns and linear conclusions, but with the help of vagueness, courage to leave gaps, absurd detours, chaotic decisions, and productive breaks. The self has no physical location, it is based on the ability to comprehend and be aware of it. Humans can take a self-perspective, but it is not a tangible thing or simple data processing. Science still cannot explain how exactly consciousness works physically. The self remains a mystery.
