Analytical systems are used to analyze large sets of data, as opposed to single-record processing in transactional systems. We use the term “analytical functionality” in a general way. It ranges from reports in an ERP system to machine learning and mathematical optimization methods in planning. We focus on data warehouse systems, but we look also briefly at other types of analytical functionality.
