After discussing the individual interactions in the previous sections, we will now show how everything fits together into the canonical form of the Standard Model. An important aspect of this is the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the electroweak interaction, which is mediated by the Higgs mechanism. Along the way, reasons for the existence of the Higgs boson will be compiled. This is followed by an introduction to the Lagrangian formalism, gauge theories, and finally a detailed treatment of the Higgs mechanism.
