Experience has shown that there are often uncertainties in practice regarding the appropriate approach to patients who are affected by violence, or those who perpetrate violence. Therefore, in Chapter 6, different approaches are presented, depending on whether it is a highly acute, safety-critical scenario, or other condition constellations that make outpatient psychotherapy or counseling appear contraindicated. The decision aids at the end of the chapter support the rapid assessment of the index case from a safety perspective.
