Does it make sense, from an economic perspective, to use expensive robots in hospitals? This chapter addresses these and other interesting questions. The author is a recognized economic consultant for large-scale projects in Switzerland: The article shows the larger context of the problem of costs and benefits and offers considerations on the savings effect through fewer complications and shorter absences from work (positive externalities). However, economics also recognizes patient preferences (stated preferences approach); finally, the significance of DRGs in this context is discussed.
