In order to analyze the costs of robotic hernia surgery and compare them with the costs of laparoscopic and open surgery, fixed costs (equipment) and variable costs (surgical costs, hospital stay costs) of the various intervention categories must be measured. The fixed and operating costs of robotic hernia surgery are generally higher than those of laparoscopic or open surgery. For simple hernia operations, this leads to higher overall costs for the robotic technique. For complex hernia procedures, the higher fixed and surgical costs of the robotic technique are offset by lower hospitalization costs, making the overall costs after robotic surgery comparable or lower than after laparoscopic or open surgery. The treatment team has a whole range of options for optimizing the costs of robotic hernia surgery. These options will be presented and discussed.
