This chapter describes the background and the instruments available for recording patient-related outcomes, the so-called PROMs (outcome measures) and PREMs (experience measures). The SF-36 is the best-known PROM instrument; however, this article mainly presents and discusses the hernia-specific PROMs: the Carolinas Comfort Scale (CCS), the Hernia-related Quality of Life Survey (HerQLes) and the Quality of Life Score of the EHS (EuraHS QoL Score).
