Despite major advances in the field of ventral hernia repair in recent decades, modern surgical approaches are still based on the traditional principles of the Rives-Stoppa technique (Rives et al., Minerva Chir 32:749–56, 1977). The concept of implanting a mesh in the retrorectus position is still considered the gold standard for the treatment of non-complex ventral hernias (Hartog et al., Ann Surg 276:55–65, 2022). The introduction of robotics has created new possibilities: robotics rivets a technically simple access to the different layers of the abdominal wall (e.g. also to the retromuscular space) and integrates the advantages of the minimally invasive approach. In this chapter, we describe the detailed steps of the robot-assisted transabdominal retromuscular umbilical hernia repair (r-TARUP) using lateral docking. This chapter is accompanied by a video.

摘要
