Hernia operations can be performed open, laparoscopically or, more recently, robot-assisted. Several points should be considered in robot-assisted hernia surgery. Recurrence is still an undesirable outcome of hernia repair, and factors such as the choice of the correct mesh and surgical technique can influence the recurrence rate. Surgical history is critical as it may indicate adhesions or an existing stoma, two findings that could potentially complicate or negatively impact the surgical procedure and outcome. The mesh material has a central role in hernia repair: each material has its own advantages and disadvantages and should be selected according to the patient’s needs. Robotic procedures take longer than conventional methods but have a faster learning curve. With this in mind, optimal planning of the operating theatre and the assigned surgeon should take place to minimize the risk of complications. Finally, each surgical robot has unique characteristics, and it is up to the surgeon to decide which robot model to use according to their preferences.

摘要
