The management and surgical treatment of recurrent hernias pose significant challenges and necessitate highly specialized expertise. The establishment of hernia centers and the academic advancement of hernia surgery represent positive developments in recent years, particularly benefiting complex patients with recurrent hernias. However, there remains a notable deficiency in high-quality scientific data that comprehensively addresses the medical, ethical, and socio-economic impacts of recurrent hernias. Recurrent hernias can profoundly impact patients’ lives for extended periods. The following patient case provides a glimpse into the potential consequences of recurrent ventral hernias. We advocate for recognizing recurrent hernia as a complex condition requiring enhanced treatment quality to better serve patient needs. In this context, our focus centers on recurrent ventral hernias.
