This chapter seeks to discuss and answer the question to what extent device affordances influence language use (Sect. 8.2). It also further explores the ideas that arose throughout the course of analysis, such as whether language variation across device types can be salient and associated with social mean-ing (Sect. 8.3). Furthermore, it adds some thoughts about affordances and the idea of an affordance framework (Sect. 8.4), as well as whether affordances can lead to language change (Sect. 8.5). Several ways that the current study can impact the field of sociolinguistic research into DMC more broadly are proposed (Sect. 8.6). After an overview on potential future research which can be developed on the basis of the current study (Sect. 8.7), the book fin-ishes with a brief conclusion (Sect. 8.8).
