In this chapter, terms are defined if they are of significant importance for further argumentation. Common terms—such as verification—are only defined to avoid misunderstandings if they are used with different meanings in specialist circles. Definitions of terms that do not fall into one of the two aforementioned categories are deliberately omitted. The entirety of all definitions in this chapter should be understood as a proposal for the core of a standardized nomenclature in the area of product safety.
