Notably, Africa exhibits some deviations from the standard global pattern of climatic distribution. Given that over 70 per cent of the continent's rapidly growing population depends on agriculture, understanding these conditions is critical for informed land-use descisions. Relying solely on mean annual precipitation and temperature is insufficient for assessing agricultural potential or managing water resources. Instead, effectice planning requires considering local, regional, and temporal rainfall variability, reliability, and significant year-to-year fluctuations, alongside other physical geographic features like soil and relief.
