This chapter gives an overview of the visibility and articulation rules of US politics in the age of Trump from a media culture perspective. Koch and Rogers consider the role of performance within the field of politics and focus in particular on the normalization of invective rhetoric in the context of Trump’s presidency. Starting from the comedy skits of the Correspondents’ Dinners, which function as microdramas of intermedially framed discourse phenomena, the discursive shifts and power mechanisms within the public, media, and political sphere are explored. The chapter also considers how an epistemology of the black box provides insights into how the political constellations of the Trump era as well as their attention economies and truth games can be rethought.
