The Great Disruptor. An Approach
摘要
This chapter outlines the main features of Donald Trump’s “politics of degradation”. It shows how Trump’s communication style oscillates between self-victimization and enemy creation and uses outrage and invective as a resource to initiate a dynamic of affective community formation. In this sense, the chapter also examines which racist and sexist discourse patterns Trump has used to present himself as an alternative to the established political order. This includes key aspects of his media interventions as well as the creation of a specific economy of affective states, which radicalized into a collective emotional regime during his presidency and culminated in the storming of the Capitol in January 2021.
