The planetary designates a critical episteme that encourages reflection on the complexity of the multilayered social, political, economic, and ecological crises of the twenty-first century. This chapter tracks the transformative potential of the planetary as the concept considers both the present state of the world and its projection into the future by centering around the continued habitability of the Earth and multispecies flourishing as its ultimate horizon of thought and shared concern.
