This chapter deals with the experiences of the “Silver Agers”: At the end of their professional lives, most people experience a massive shift in their group affiliations and thus in their group identity. The crucial question is to what extent these changes are experienced as desired and self-determined or as externally determined and abrupt. Here, a variety of adjustment problems can occur.
