The role of group leadership in group dynamics will be presented in detail. The personal equation of the leaders or conductors plays a significant role. What are their own group experiences? Different attitudes towards the group can massively influence the group process, as we have already seen in Chap. 12. In groups, much unconsciously revolves around the leader, the fantasies about him or her, how they change over time. Important is the “negative capability” (cf. Bion, Attention and Interpretation. Routledge, London, 1984) of the leadership, the ability to establish connections, the belief in what groups have to offer, what they can achieve. However, this also includes that group leaders face their own fear and limitation and exchange ideas with colleagues and continue their professional development.
