This chapter deals with the fundamentals for the analytical and numerical treatment of laminated and sandwich beams. Both Classical Laminated Plate Theory (CLPT) and First-Order Shear Deformation Theory (FSDT) are treated and all necessary equations are provided for the analytical treatment of such laminated beams. In addition, beams in sandwich construction are considered and the basis for analytical treatment is also presented for this case. The chapter concludes with the consideration of finite elements for laminated rods as well as for beams within the framework of CLPT and FSDT.
