Until the late 1940s, the common narrative said that all naturally occurring elements were synthesized “somehow” during the “Big Bang” phase. This notion was, of course, due to ignorance of the microwave background radiation, which had not been discovered yet, but also due to ignorance of the significance of nuclear reactions that play a role in this. And furthermore, the physics of stellar explosions, like supernovae, was completely in the dark at that time. With today’s knowledge about the background radiation and given the immense body of experimental data on nuclear reactions of any kind, the above statement that the “Big Bang” is responsible for the synthesis of all elements is completely untenable.
