This article highlights function analysis as a central tool within the TRIZ methodology and shows how different approaches can be developed for an adaptable function analysis. It deals with the meta-level of function analysis, domain-specific approaches and the detailed consideration of functions. The article argues in favor of using function analysis in a flexible and adaptable way so that it can meet the specific requirements of different domains.
