This paper describes a collaborative case study that incorporates Human-Centered Design (HCD) and the Theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ) and demonstrates the results and value generation possible when these two methods come together. Recognizing the complementary nature of HCD and TRIZ, the study focuses on a practical, low-complexity application that maintains the integrity of both methods. The project uses HCD to explore human-centered aspects, while TRIZ focuses on technical solutions. The systematic collaboration enables the integration of human-centered insights and technical problem solving, with a focus on systems thinking, divergence and convergence processes and a shared mindset of curiosity. Experience shows that such an approach not only fosters the creative process, but also produces solutions that are more comprehensive and robust than those generated by the single method alone.
