The common scorpionfly belongs to the family of earwigflies. In 2018, it was ‘Insect of the Year’ in Germany. Male and female scorpionflies do not look alike (‘sexual dimorphism’). The male exhibits a kind of pincered stinger on its rear end that looks like a scorpion’s sting, hence the name.
