The perfect camouflage and a good hunt
摘要
The little green spider Nigma walckenaeri, sometimes also called Green Meshweaver, has only been recorded in a handful of places in our region, and one of them is our garden. These spiders pull up the edges of a leaf with their sticky threads, by weaving a diaphanous web over its entire surface. They leave an entrance hole and an exit hole, furnish the former with a few more sticky threads and ta-da! There you have your perfect insect trap! Its green colour and the semi-opaqueness of the web hid the spider almost perfectly, and if I look at my pictures, I have to say, it’s quite the successful strategy!
