I came across this unusual scene on the leaf of a wild teasel: a spider had spun a web around a clutch of shield bug eggs and was now standing watch over them. If the newly hatched shield bugs tried to make a break for it, she hastened over to herd them back to their places. An additional web had been woven at a little distance over the entire clutch to guard against any escape.
