Sets with an inner composition form the starting point for the investigation of all algebraic structures. We provide a brief overview here and also introduce less common algebraic structures. They, in particular, provide a solid background for formalizations in computer science. In the last part of this chapter, groups are examined separately due to their ubiquitous importance. This part can essentially be worked on independently of the rest of this chapter.
