Numbers are a self-evident part of our daily lives. We deal with them almost without thinking. Now, we will develop a mathematically deeper understanding of numbers. We will explore which of their properties we define—i.e., actually have to assume—and which properties then automatically apply—i.e., which we can prove, even if we will not conduct all proofs here.
