Muscle Near-Infrared Spectroscopy: mNIRS the Next Generation of Applied Muscle Physiology

Muscle near-infrared spectroscopy or mNIRS applied to derive muscle oxygenation is becoming a sought-after tool in sport and exercise science. Its simple and robust form and minimal invasive application makes at an extremely attractive tool to investigate bioenergetics in complex situations. While at time contentious, and numerous questions remain to be answered, the next generation of applied muscle physiology could well be an mNIRS generation.
