Problems related to eyelash growth and the tear system are very frequently presented in ophthalmic consultations. Numerous clinical findings of misalignment (wrong location, wrong growth direction, subcutaneous course) and special morphology of individual eyelashes (poliosis, consequence of prostaglandin analogs, burn) are demonstrated. Here, high slit lamp magnifications are sometimes required. Lower magnifications on the slit lamp are usually sufficient to explain causes of epiphora such as a pathological contour of the lower eyelid margin or abnormalities of the tear punctum. However, the image documentation of pathological conditions of the tear sac (such as dacryocystitis and dacryocele) or lacrimal gland requires larger image sections with additional minus lenses.
