Anyone using a slit lamp for the first time will be able to see the structures of the eye at higher magnification and focal illumination surprisingly quickly. The main adjustments are light intensity and magnification, possibly also the slit width: The structure of interest is sharply and well illuminated in the center of the field of view, as a matter of course. The quick achievement of this goal may contribute to the fact that a basic understanding of slightly more differentiated applications of the slit lamp sometimes does not develop at all—even in an entire ophthalmological life.
