Peripheral, but also large-scale retinal findings such as those in vascular diseases, retinal detachment, pigment degenerations, and also large choroidal tumors can in principle be adequately documented videographically like almost any retinal change. In contrast to other delegable documentation methods such as fundus photography with a fundus camera or OCT, which are usually carried out by assistant staff, the (experienced) examiner will record the image material at the slit lamp himself. The further image processing can, but does not have to, take place at the time of recording and also not by the examiner himself. However, the lack of software tailored to ophthalmological concerns for merging individual images into an overview is particularly noticeable here: depending on aesthetic requirements as an album, mosaic or an image panorama, the freely available “Stitching Software” Hugin® brings slit lamp videography close to fundus photography.
