摘要

Dragonflies are ectothermic animals. It is very important for them to quickly reach operating temperature in the morning so they can become active. These Common Bluetails (Ischnura elegans) snuggle closely to plant stalks, where it is almost eight degrees (Celsius) warmer than in the open air. (The arrows pointing outwards, above indicate the temperature between the stalks). It is also through such thermoregulation that this species is so successful in extending its activity to cool weather.
