Drinking

Not only is eating part of the dragonfly’s metabolic needs, but equally important is water intake as seen with these Demoiselles drinking (both illustrations from left to right). They plunge headfirst into the water, stay in contact for a short moment and then push themselves up again, the water running off the non-wettable wings. The start is easily achieved with a wide swing.
