Imaging techniques in the terahertz (THz) region between 100 GHz and 30 THz have emerged in the last decade as a powerful technique for the non-invasive examination of art objects. The examination of wood painted panels can be done with spectrometers in the time domain or in the frequency domain. The THz imaging technique can illustrate the stratigraphy of wood painted panels and existing damage to various layers of the panel.
