Physiocracy

  • Volker Caspari

摘要

The eighteenth century saw the rise of the physiocratic school of economics in France. The chapter shows that although Colbert had developed France according to mercantilist principles, the country was in economic disarray, leading to the French Revolution. The Physiocrats made a correct diagnosis and proposed economic therapies based on the observation that agricultural labour should be encouraged, not burdened. Too late to stop the revolution.
