The Economy of Ancient Greece and the Beginning of Economic Thought

  • Volker Caspari

摘要

This chapter looks at the origins of economic thought in antiquity. He analyses the ancient Greek economy and the economic thought of Greek philosophers such as Xenophon and Aristotle. Caspari also provides insights into the geography of Greece, especially its mountainous terrain, which forced the Greeks to look to the sea, and explores the concepts of Oikos and Polis—household and city—which were the fundamental categories of social and political interaction in ancient Greece.
