After the First World War (WWI), four developments can be identified in economics. Macroeconomic problems such as inflation, mass unemployment and business cycles became more important and the theoretical study of them led to a differentiation and a new field of study, that of macroeconomics. The development of this discipline is inextricably linked with the name and theory of John Maynard Keynes.
