Responsible Use of Machine Learning in Sports Science
摘要
Artificial Intelligence (AI) in general and Machine Learning (ML) in particular have brought substantial change to society, business and science, which of course also applies to the field of sports. While research has initially concentrated on methodological questions and opportunities for application, the rise of ML also creates new problems, yielding increased discussion on the responsible use of ML. The present chapter discusses the development of ML from fundamental research to a broad societal usage and recent political efforts to create guidelines as well as a legal framework for the use of AI. Several issues connected with ML-based solutions, such as discrimination, missing explainabilityExplainability, methodologically incorrect use of models and application for questionable purposes are discussed domain-independently. Moreover, the chapter aims to promote awareness of ML responsibility in the domain of sports by addressing specific sports-related ethical, economic and legal issues, but also issues of applicability and questions related to the way we want our societySociety to be in the future.
